Southwold : Grade II

A remarkable opportunity to work on a building with significant history.

A gentle touch was required when we worked on the refurbishment of The Southwold School of Industrial Art. Sensitivity to its original purpose, compliance with its listed status and the addition of modern interventions to bring the residence up to spec for living in the 20th Century.

Clean, contemporary storage was designed and built to enclose the staircase and provide display shelving for the owner’s collection of pottery, glass, books and other ephemera.

The existing kitchen, housed in a pre-existing extension to the main building, was replaced with a bespoke fit-out and a skylight introduced to improve light levels.

Upstairs, built-in wardrobes and pigeon holes were introduced to all the bedrooms before being re-decorated and robust sisal carpet laid throughout.

The finished project simultaneously celebrates the origins and character of the original building whilst adding functionality and living spaces for 20th-century living.
